Welcome back to School!!!
The beginning of a new calendar year for most people is a time of reflection and resolution making. Although January is the middle of an academic year, it is still a time for students and teachers to think about what they have learned the first half of the year and set goals for the second half of the year.
Often setting new year's resolutions can be daunting and overwhelming. Many times these resolutions are hard to achieve and dream-like rather than realistic. Recently many people on social media have spoken about having a theme or word for the year. At Owensboro Middle School, we would like to adopt this idea for 2015. Our word: GROWTH.
Growth Mindset is a term coined by Carol Dweck. The videos below explains what this means. Watch the videos and think about your way of thinking--is your mindset on of growth or is it fixed? Our goal is to have a growth mindset for our teachers, staff and students at OMS!
Feel free to share the second video with your students and ask them to consider how they approach learning for themselves. Don't forget to let Alisha or Jeanette know if you do this to be "caught red-handed" this month!
